Two chocolates are ALWAYS better than one. It’s good for the soul - happy heart, healthy heart. I apply this similar outlook where it’s important: mimosas, Netflix and chill and most importantly my wardrobe. That’s right. In my closet I have beaucoup of different styles at my fingertips. If you think about it, it’s a FAB way to solve the whole outfit FOMO problem.
This wasn’t always my play of scene. I use to follow a silly rule that went like this “choose your own style and stick with it.” Meaning one formation only: modern, tomboy, black/white and greys, bohemian or feminine chic (cue the rest of styles). I must have adopted this during my trying-to-fit-in years (aka early 20s). I held onto modern wear and hid in this hermit style throughout those years. You guessed it...my closet looked uniformed and plain in every way. I wore modern pieces 24/7 as my comfort blanket.
I’m not sure when I trashed that disgusting rule. I probably woke up in the heat of the night saying “ah-ha,” like the majority of my writing ideas, or must have read it in an inspiring post. Heavens am I glad I did.
I suddenly stepped out of my comfort zone, boxed up that rule and welcomed with open arms any types of styles my heart jumped for. This new found awareness was like seeing rainbows for the first time. When I reached for a bright colored dress my energy level peaked throughout the day. When I opted for a bohemian top it relaxed my worries on stressful projects. When I threw in a mix of feminine chic with either black and white pieces it let me feel playful and courageous on weekends. I even invited plaid to the party.
Outfit FOMO has never been a problem in my wardrobe since. So, if your closet is filled with one style (like colorless pieces) and you really want to add feminine blush hues into the mix but are afraid what people might think or that it might not go with what your ‘true’ style is portraying. I say do it anyway. Be a rule breaker. Your heart is thinking of feminine blush for a reason and your heart’s expressions deserve attention.
Styling from your heart works.
P.S. Summertime is the PERF opportunity to try out new styles, so get it girl!
